Intelligent Compression Technologies, Inc. (ICT) announced today that ASIS Internet Services, an ISP in Northern California, has become a customer of ICT's AcceleNet managed acceleration service.
ASIS, an ISP serving the region of Humboldt County California, is using AcceleNet to provide broadband-like speeds on ASIS' subscriber's dial-up 56kbps modem service. AcceleNet delivers an average of 2-3x faster web browsing and 5-6x faster email uploads and downloads on the typical subscriber's 56kbps modem service, and even provides acceleration as great as 8-10x depending on the content.
The AcceleNet service is hosted and managed by ICT, but marketed, billed and supported by ASIS. In this arrangement, ASIS subscribers are provided an account that enables them access to the AcceleNet service. When an ASIS subscriber requests a web page or wants to download their email, the AcceleNet servers in ICT's data center fetch the web pages and emails, compress them using advanced compression technology and sends them to ASIS's data center for delivery to the ASIS subscribers. ASIS subscribers to the AcceleNet service received a compressed version of the web pages and emails that they are downloading. The AcceleNet software that resides on the subscriber's computers expands the web pages and emails and presents it on their computers in its decompressed format.
According to Nella White, Vice President of ASIS, "Unlike other accelerator products, the AcceleNet software doesn't do anything weird to your computer and it increases my subscriber's effective web browsing speed by up to 6 times what they are used to experiencing." "I wouldn't want to give it up", she added, " because AcceleNet is giving me a definite competitive advantage in my marketplace as well as a significant new revenue stream."
