Wireless Data Acceleration Product, AcceleNet, Formally Launched at CTIA 2002

March 18, 2002

Intelligent Compression Technologies, Inc. (ICT) is formally launching its wireless data acceleration product, AcceleNet™ at the CTIA Wireless 2002 show, March 18-20 in Orlando. ICT, which is exhibiting at Booth #4485, chose this event to launch because it is the largest and leading wireless trade event in North America.

It has become widely acknowledged that today's 2G wirelesss networks typically deliver only 6-11 kbps, that 2.5G wireless networks being rolled out now typically deliver about 20-30kbps, and that widespread 3G networks are several years away at best. With data services expected to drive the future growth of the wireless industry, the industry requires a product like AcceleNet™ which makes wireless networks usably faster. First generation acceleration products such as server-based caching and network optimization products, improve speed performance but are typically not able to break the critical 56kbps modem speed barrier. Attainment of this minimum speed is viewed as necessary by the remote and mobile user for widespread acceptance of wireless as a network to access Email, the Web and the corporate Intranet.

AcceleNet™ uses a combination of high performance application-aware compression to reduce the size of the data being transferred, application protocol optimization to reduce the overhead and size of the most popular web application data, and transport protocol optimization to remove the latency experienced in wireless networks. The result is a product which enables effective average throughput speed gains of 3-5x on web browsing and even greater on Emails with attachments, typically averaging throughput speeds of 120kbps and higher, for example, on 2.5G networks.

According to Bill Sebastian, President of ICT, "The release of AcceleNet formalizes our company's transition from a best-in-class provider of compression software for embedding in OEM products, to the best-in-class provider of network acceleration platforms for Carriers, ISPs and Enterprises." "Furthermore," he added, "AcceleNet is currently being evaluated by numerous Carriers, ISPs and Enterprises and we expect formal customer announcements will be forthcoming shortly. This will add to our current list of satisfied customers which include Nortel, Novell, Compaq, Vivendi, Manpower, and others"

Shipments for AcceleNet begin in April 2002.

About Intelligent Compression Technologies

Intelligent Compression Technologies, Inc., a privately held company located in Quincy, MA, provides software compression and network acceleration products for the Communications, Internet, and Networking industries where data delivery speed over a relatively limited bandwidth is an issue. ICT's AcceleNet™ product enables wide-area wireless networks (i.e. 2G/2.5G) to operate at 56kbps modem-like speeds and dial-up 56kbps lines to operate at broadband-like speeds, enabling fast remote access to Email with attachments, corporate applications, Intranets and the Web. ICT also licenses compression software to OEMs, which dramatically shrinks Microsoft Office™ files, XML data and common web images to enable faster file transfers, software delivery and reduced storage capacity.
